hey guys, i should have a new video to go up later on this week. Our good friend Kirk has prepared one for us, i just need to get it from him now. So stay tuned, and until then check out this funny video that James told me about on climbing films.com. It's a bunch of frenchies up at rumney doing a 14a and a 13b. And they are constantly yelling in french, an it's just funny.

The Incident at Sandrock

This weekend the boys and I made a trip up to Sandrock and had a little excitement. We were climbing down by Mud Wall when we heard multiple sirens up at the parking lot, but since we had not heard any commotion before that we didn't think much of it. Then we started hearing someone on a loud speaker talking, but we couldn't understand it, so we figured it was just someone with a cb and a loudspeaker on their truck. Then what finally clued us in to what was going on flew overhead.

A lifesaver helicopter. Now we new something was up, so we made a beeline for the parking lot only to find, that the voices we heard on the loudspeaker were emergency personel telling everyone to move their cars because they were preparing to land a helicopter. It seems what happened was that the night before (friday night) some guy and his buddy's were drinking up there–which is a pretty popular thing to do at Sandrock–and either this guy told his friends that he was going to go sleep somewhere, or just tried to jump one of the cravasses that are just passed the campsites and didn't make it. He then wasn't found until around noon the next day. He had a pretty serious head injury and some other smaller injuries. Lucky guy. Sad thing is that his friends didn't even care that he wasn't around and had not been around since the previous night. There is some posting going on about it on the SCC message board with some first hand accounts from those that found him that you can view here.

The sad thing about incidents such as these is that he will probably be called a "climber" just because he was at sandrock, even though he wasn't climbing. It's too bad that we get lumped in with those people. I would be interested to know how many "climbing" incidents are actually involve climbers, especially at a place like sandrock. One thing that can be said is that, even though he wasn't a climber, plenty of climbers and other vistors volunteered to help pull him out of the crevasse. I have posted some pictures of the effort here.

well?

notice anything new? maybe the design of the SITE? that's right folks, after only 2 years, a complete update is done, or maybe i shouldn't speak so soon. Not all the galleries are up inside, but believe you me, they will be. It is just going to take some time, maybe a couple weeks. right now you will have to be content with the movies and photos from Horse Pens 40 and Sandrock. Also take this chance to again, give me any constructive criticism you have about the site and how it works or if it is displaying badly on your system (which it shouldn't) i'd love to here it.

As for the video i promised, i guess you will just have to wait. Getting this site up and running with the new design took up all the time i had to spend on the video, but hear me now and understand me later, I have all kinds of footage to edit and put up, so now that the site redesign is done, i will again be spending my spare time editing those videos for you, my peoples.

Also. There are entirely too many photos of myself and Team Craghead on the site right now, I want to see you on the site, i want to see everybody on the site. So get together your best shots and send them my way. EMAIL It doesn't matter if the area you climb at is on the site yet or not, send me pics and i will add it.

this is one other cool trick with the new site...

The New Craghead

CRAGHEAD 5.6 Beta

here is installment number two of the redesign, still only the Horse Pens page works, but i have tweaked the design, and added some functionality to the way you navigate the photos. You can now both browse through them, or go directly to the photo by the name of the climb featured in the photo. let me know what you think, comment below.
